Alex Maistros was born and raised in Ohio. After receiving her Cosmetologist license in 2010, she moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College Chicago for Fine Art. She spends her free time collecting garbage, people watching, and modifying her body.
I always find myself compartmentalizing who I am. I have different personas for my different professions, social groups, and daily activities. Through this work I try to organize and categorize myself by collecting residue and garbage created and used by myself on a daily basis. The remnants of my daily rituals form a collective series of self portraits. These time based pieces link together to develop my identity as a whole.
